The first day: rest before the tour
Show the litter box, food, water and a hiding place. Let the kitten come to you instead of being carried around the house and to all the guests.

Calm, routines and small steps give the kitten the opportunity to make the strange place its home.
For the new kitten, home is not “home” yet. It is a large collection of unfamiliar sounds, smells and people. Start small and let the security grow.

Show the litter box, food, water and a hiding place. Let the kitten come to you instead of being carried around the house and to all the guests.

As the kitten eats, uses the litter box, plays and seeks contact, the territory can be expanded little by little.

Smell and distance come before close contact. Give both cats the opportunity to retreat and let their reactions dictate the pace.
✓ Use familiar food and gravel at first
✓ Leave the transport box open as a known hiding place
✓ Keep doors and windows secure from the first minute
✓ Give children one simple rule: the kitten must come by itself
× No big welcoming committee
× No forced contact or showing
× No free access to the whole house at once if the kitten is insecure
× No quick introduction to other animals “to get it over with”
A new kitten should be treated with caution. However, if it seems sick, very lethargic, or stops eating and drinking, you should react quickly and contact the breeder and veterinarian.
