The first cats. The early lines. The trails we still follow.

Illustrated workflow from original source to transcription and source control
Illustrated workflow

Here you will meet named cats from the early history of the Holy Birman, from the French exhibitions of the 1920s to the reconstruction after World War II. We collect years, family relationships, breeders, shows, historical photographs and sources in a way that makes the research verifiable.

History is not the same as legend. Where information comes from later tales, an incomplete pedigree, or an identity hypothesis, it is clearly stated. "Unknown" means we won't guess.

How to read the registry

Name, date or relationship can be found in a given historical source. A registered pedigree shows what was entered in the register of the time – not DNA evidence. Each card therefore distinguishes between documented and open fields.

A researched name or possible family connection that is not confirmed in the original record. We do not present rejected theories as current facts.

Impact on the timeline

Jumaud describes a French Burmese population; identification of Sujet I/II is later strongly supported but not named in his table.

Salle Wagram 13.–14. May and Lyon 13–14 November documents Poupée, Manou, Hiram-Roi II, Timour and Sita II.

Baudoin-Crevoisier identifies Youyou as "Lynx du Laos"; not Timur.

Reims 2–3 January: Dieu d’Arakan, Reine de Rangoon and »Lon Sarto« appear in simultaneous performances.

Sinh de Saint Hubert was born on January 30, 1933 and is in LOS transfer no. 9 with Zaquelle de Mandalay as mother.

Son Saito is printed as an imported champion in Germany; Su v. Frohnau and the Geneva cross with Ka Matos are documented in 1938.

What do we know – and what is open?

What are we still investigating?

Is it the same cat?

Sujet I = Hiram-Roi I and Sujet II = Hiram-Roi II are strongly supported identifications. Timour is not Youyou/Lynx du Laos. Open questions include Son Saito vs Lon-Saito, Lyon-Youyou vs Nice-Youyou and SCR-Youla vs Youla de Madalpour.

Who were the parents?

LOS no. 9 establishes registered parentage up to Sinh de Saint Hubert. However, original verification of, among others, Dieu d’Arakan’s parents, the Coco/Lowalthardi track and several other Madalpour cats is missing. They must not be filled in from rejected secondary stories.

Where are the originals?

We compare, among other things, Jumaud, French cat magazines, Swiss LOS, SCR, older Danish studbooks and show catalogs. Source identity and original spelling are preserved.

Sources, photographs and documentation

The register is based on historical materials and later scholarly reviews. The websites below provide access to photographs and source descriptions, but their conclusions do not automatically equal a verified original registration.

Source hierarchy in this version: 1) documented studbooks and contemporary catalogues/printed articles, 2) clearly marked later reconstructions, 3) open hypotheses. Historical rejections (including Coco as Sinh's dam and Timour as "Lynx du Laos") may not be reintroduced from older notes or online pedigrees.

The sources behind the story

Source status and name identification

Historical names may appear in multiple spellings and with later added designations. A recorded relation represents a historical source and is not in itself genetic evidence.

Timour and the name "Laotian Lynx": The identification is a historical research question and should not be read as a definitively confirmed name equivalence. Comparison also the study of Youyou, Timour and Lynx du Laos og kildeoversigtenAny older designations are preserved as source traces, not as confirmed identities.

How to read the research profiles

A name in a studbook does not necessarily document that two names refer to the same cat. Name variants, relationships and identifications must be assessed separately. Missing documentation must not be filled in with assumptions.
