Is a cat without a pedigree a Sacred Birman?
It may look like a Birman, but without a registered pedigree you cannot document that it is purebred. The pedigree documents ancestry; it is not just decoration for a folder.
Why are Birman kittens almost white?
Point colour is temperature-sensitive. The kitten is warm in the womb and is therefore born very pale. The cooler parts of the body gradually develop more colour after birth.
Must a Birman have white feet?
Yes. The four white feet are one of the breed’s key characteristics. On the hind feet the white continues into gauntlets.
Is the best Birman the one with perfect gloves?
No. Gloves and gauntlets matter at shows, but the cat is judged as a whole. As a family cat, markings say nothing about affection, temperament or the ability to take over your pillow.
When may a Birman kitten leave?
Birmakredsen follows the FIFe rule of no earlier than 14 weeks. The breeder must also make sure the kitten is ready for the transition and meets the applicable requirements.
What is Birmakredsen’s view on neutering?
Our position is simple: a pet kitten should be neutered before it leaves the breeder.
May a Birman roam freely outdoors?
Birmakredsen does not recommend free roaming. A secure outdoor enclosure, cat-proof garden or catio provides fresh air and experiences without the same risks from traffic, fights, poisoning and disappearance.
Does a Birman need a feline friend?
Many Birmans are very social and do well with other cats, but no single rule fits everyone. Age, temperament, household rhythm and how much time the cat spends alone all matter.
Does the coat require a lot of work?
The silky semi-long coat usually has less undercoat than many other longhaired breeds, but it still needs regular combing and checking – especially during shedding periods.
Why is my Birman getting darker?
That is normal. The point gene responds to temperature, and both points and body colour can change with age, season and individual genetics.
How do I find a responsible breeder?
Ask about pedigree, health, socialisation, contract, parent cats and support after purchase. A good breeder also asks questions about you – because the match goes both ways.
Can I search the pedigree database if I do not know the full name?
Yes. Try part of the name or cattery name and keep old spellings in mind. Historical names may occur in several variants, so a little detective work is perfectly allowed.
