Before entering

Choose a show, read the organiser’s invitation and check the current requirements for membership, vaccination, identification, age, classes and deadlines. Rules and practical requirements may vary by organiser and country.

Pack for your cat

Bring a carrier, water, food, bowls, a litter tray and litter, a blanket, cage furnishings, grooming equipment and the relevant papers. Help your cat feel safe in its carrier before the trip.

On show day

Arrive in good time, follow instructions for check-in and any veterinary examination, and find your cage. Give your cat time to settle. Ask a steward or organiser if you are unsure about the judging order.

Judging, certificates and BIS

The judge assesses the cat in its entered class, according to the relevant breed standard. Certificates, nominations and Best in Show are distinct stages; the outcome depends on the rules, class and competition. Read the show guide and the FIFe show article series.

Your cat’s wellbeing comes first

Watch for stress, heat, noise and the need for breaks. A cat that is clearly distressed should not be forced to complete the day.
